The Library of Congress has posted 2017 materials from its wonderful annual invitational Storage Architectures meeting, which takes place in September. This is a great snapshot of costs and projections across a wide range of storage platforms. Of particular interest this year is the (to some surprising) persistence of tape, which is still seeing very considerable storage density improvements, and the emergence of what look like reallly industrial grade and scale object storage systems. It's also clear that while SSD is quickly replacing disk for many purposes in consumer marketplaces, it's going to be a very very long time before it is likely to do so in data center markets ---- though it clearly has a significant and growing place in those markets.
