Jane Radecki and Roger Schoenfeld at Ithaka S+R have released a very helpful new report on academic research budgets. This focuses on the scientific research enterprise within US academic institutions, with particular attention to some of the intricacies of grant management, budgeting, and accounting, and pays particular attention to research support infrastructure and services. This is one more piece of trying to gain an understanding of the ongoing implications of the pandemic for the research enterprise.
