The sustainability of digital resources and services in the cultural heritage sectors continues to be a major issue, with work going in in a variety of venues, including the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Sustainable Digital Preservation and Access (see http://brtf.sdsc.edu/ ) (Disclosure: I am serving as a member of this Task Force.)
RLG Programs at OCLC has just produced a very helpful contribution to this discussion in the form of a report by Ricky Erway titled "Seeking Sustainability", which offers a retrospective on success and failures of the RLG cultural materials and Trove.net programs, now discontinued.
