Call for Proposals

The Visual Resources Association’s 2020 Annual Conference will be held in Baltimore, Maryland from Tuesday, March 24th through Friday, March 27th, 2020 at the Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Baltimore . Presenting at the VRA Conference provides you with the opportunity to see how your ideas, research, work, and passion connect to those of other dedicated professionals while building networks and friendships in an open, collaborative environment.

I wanted to share this call for information for a survey from the National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA) with the CNI community. This is the first time NDSA has reached out to the broader community in collecting this information, and their findings will be very helpful for all of us.

Introducing ROR: The Research Organization Registry ROR is a community-led project to develop an open, sustainable, usable, and unique identifier for every research organization in the world. There's a very interesting new report available from Danielle Cooper and Rebecca Springer at Ithaka S+R today titled "Data Communities: A New Model for Supporting STEM Data Sharing" which uses the concept of data sharing communities to explore successful data sharing practices and to underpin a strategy to promote greater sharing. Note that while the examples are STEM based, I believe that the concepts are much more broadly applicable and hence this paper should be of very wide interest.

The video of Kathleen Fitzpatrick's opening plenary address from CNI’s recent membership meeting, "Generous Thinking: Sustainability, Solidarity and the Common Good," is now available online. In her talk, Fitzpatrick draws on her recently published book, Generous Thinking: A Radical Approach to Saving the University (Johns Hopkins, 2019), in which she argues that rebuilding trust between higher education and the public requires focusing practices and modes of communication around building solidarity and community, and that this approach requires a paradigm shift.

The call for papers is now out for the 15th International Digital Curation Conference. I've reproduced the call below, rather than just providing the usual pointer, because I think that the breadth and interplay of issues to be explored at the meeting will be of particular interest to the CNI community.
